Rooting Against Hoffman

A small band of indie filmmakers is praying that Philip Seymour Hoffman loses the Oscar race for best actor on Sunday night. They're hoping that director Douglas McGrath, who wrote and directed his own indie take on Truman Capote's close relationship with convicted murderers Dick Hickock and Perry Smith, gets his chance in the limelight too. Originally called Every Word Is True, McGrath's movie was recently retitled Infamous, and is based on George Plimpton's book and produced through Killer Films and Warner Independent Pictures. In McGrath's version, Capote is played by Toby Jones, Sandra Bullock is Harper Lee, Daniel Craig is Perry Smith, Gwyenth Paltrow is Peggy Lee and Sigourney Weaver is Babe Paley. ..quite an array of actors to root against Hoffman so that their own little movie might actually see the light of day.
