SAG did the right thing
Ruby Dee should've won for "Do the Right Thing." We don't remember who was nominated and who won that year. (Hey, that would require some research, and we consider ourselves ahead of the game right now that we can continue typing in this deep freeze press room -- now with lights!).
So she won tonight for "American Gangster." She was awesome, yes, and she made the absolute most out of that small amount of screen time. And she thanked her late much-beloved husband, Ossie Davis, so it's all good. Portending Oscar? Could be.
It doesn't require research to find out who won a SAG Award in 1989, the year DO THE RIGHT THING was released. These were the 14th annual SAG Awards. Do the math.
