Annie loves 'Panda'
It's all about "Wall-E," is it? DreamWorks Animation begs to differ.
Since "Kung Fu Panda" raked in north of $631 million worldwide this summer, the studio's been touting the tale of an unlikely hero as a colossal success and an awards hopeful. And besides that, it sure was charming.
Already in the 14-film field for Oscar consideration, "Panda" just pulled down 16 nominations, the most for any film, in the Annie Awards, given out for animated features and TV programs. That included double and triple nominations in some categories. Pixar/Disney's "Wall-E" snagged seven nominations.
Nods aren't the same as wins, of course, but that's a mighty impressive showing for the "Panda."
Also in the race: Disney's "Bolt," the Israeli flick "Waltz with Bashir," and the stop-motion "$9.99."
More here, with all the contenders. Winners announced on Jan. 30.
