'Scrubs' could continue beyond 2009 with new cast

TCA -- ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson confirmed that he picked up "Scrubs" for one season with an eye toward possibly continuing the show beyond next year, possibly without expensive star Zach Braff.

A critic asked if it's true that ABC was thinking of having a "new generation without Zach, without Bill, and bringing in some new interns."

"Certainly when we picked it up we had to make the decision based on this one season because, you know, there is a likelihood that that would be it," McPherson said. "We do think there's an opportunity after that -- talking to Zach, talking to Bill -- and whether and/or all of the cast is a part of that, I still think there's a great amount of growth there. We do think that it will not hopefully be a one-season situation. But we'll just take that step by step.

UPDATE: "Scrubs" TCA panel: "My sense is this is my last year," Braff says. Plus "Scrubs" HD upgrade, webisodes being shot and Lawrence on net switch.
