Football gives NBC Sunday night win

By Nellie Andreeva

Football ruled primetime Sunday with NBC's broadcast of the Steelers vs. Browns NFL game drawing a 10.9/17 metered-market household rating and a 6.3 rating/16 share among adults 18-49, according to early Nielsen estimates.

Fox got some encouraging additional sampling for the premiere of its new sci-fi series "Fringe."

Bookended by previews of the feature "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and Fox's "24" prequel, the combo of "Fringe" and the sneak peaks averaged a 2.3/6 in 18-49 and 5.7 million viewers overall. (The show debuted with a a 3.2/9 in the demo Tuesday.)

NBC easily won the night with an average of 13.6 million viewers and a 5.4/14 in 18-49.

Boosted by a football overrun, CBS (10.1 million, 3.0/8) was second.
