'SNL' special wins Monday night

NBC topped the ratings Monday night with its two-hour presentation of "Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash."

The election-eve special was seen by 14.4 million viewers and garnered a 5.6 preliminary Nielsen rating among adults 18-49. "SNL" was the highest-rated show of the night and gave NBC its best non-Olympics performance in the time period since the Golden Globes. (Last night's "SNL" videos here). Nonetheless, the performance is down slightly from the 2004 "SNL" pre-election special. The 200th episode of "Deal or No Deal" (7.1 million, 2.0) served as lead-in.

CBS was second, and started off the night very strong. "Big Bang Theory" (9.9 million, 3.8) matched its season high and delivered its largest total audience ever, while "How I Met Your Mother" (9.6 million, 4.1) posted a new season high. Once "SNL" kicked in at 9 p.m., however, "Two and a Half Men" (12.8 million, 4.6) dived 10% from its last episode, with "Worst Week" (8.4 million, 2.7) likewise dropping. At 10 p.m., "CSI: Miami" (12.7 million, 3.6) was down a tad, marking the fifth episode in a row to decline this season.

In third, ABC's lineup was all down slightly from last week: A series-low "Dancing With the Stars" (17.4 million, 3.9), the recently picked up "Samantha Who" (9.7 million, 2.7) and "Boston Legal" (7.2 million, 2.0).

Fourth-place Fox returned to its drama lineup this week, with "Terminator" (5.2 million, 2.0) and "Prison Break" (5.2 million, 2.1) about on par with their last aired performances.

The CW's "Gossip Girl" (3.2 million, 1.6) and "One Tree Hill" (3  million, 1.6) were roughly flat in the adult demo, though "Gossip" was up slightly among women 18-34.
