MTV orders 'Stylist' fashion reality series

MTV is getting into the fashion-competition space with a new project from "The Real World" producers Bunim-Murray.

The network is set to announce a series order for "The Stylist" on Tuesday during its upfront presentation to advertisers. On the show, a group of fashion stylists -- design-savvy professionals who assemble clothes and accessories for celebrities and models -- compete for a contract with a major agency.

"Stylist" marks a slight departure for the network. MTV has aired occupation-based competition series, including "Miss Seventeen," but "Stylist's" format also would be at home on such networks as Bravo, TLC and the CW. The number of episodes and "Stylist" premiere date are not known.

Among the network's other upcoming announcements, MTV has renewed Reveille's dating show "Parental Control."

The sixth-season order of 80 episodes will make "Control" the network's longest-running dating series, with more than 200 episodes. On the show, frustrated parents attempt to get rid of their son or daughter's significant other by setting them up on blind dates.

"When (Princess Prods.') Sebastian (Scott) and I brought this show to MTV, we thought it had potential, but this is one of the most surprising worldwide franchises Reveille has ever launched," said Howard Owens, managing director and co-head of domestic television at Reveille. "This dating show with a multigenerational hook has struck a powerful chord with viewers, and we're proud that it's become such a recognizable part of the MTV brand."

"Control" is from Reveille, with Princess Prods. owning the original format. Both are divisions of Shine Group.
