'Lie to Me' earns best rating in weeks; 'Scrubs' finale

Lie to me Fox's reality hit American Idol and freshman detective drama Lie to Me made ratings gains this week, while the finales of two ABC comedies performed modestly.

Lie (8.7 million viewers, 2.7 adults 18-49 rating) jumped 17% in the adult demo to hit its best rating in five weeks, while Idol (23.6 million, 8.3) grew 8% on the night after a production accident made headlines.

Most other shows Wednesday evening were on par with recent episodes, including second place CBS.

In third, ABC aired the season finale of Scrubs (5.1 million, 2.1), which is in discussions for a pickup. The comedy may have improved its case by climbing slightly, though the show's special airing on Tuesday (3.7 million, 1.5) couldn't have helped. The rest of ABC's lineup (Lost, The Unusuals) roughly matching last week.

NBC had the broadcast season premiere of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (5.7 million, 1.3) at 8 p.m. The episode, which first aired on USA Network, landed a distant fifth place in the hour and dropped 48% from its premiere on the network last year. NBC's other shows were steady. The CW was on par.

On Tuesday: Ratings were almost a mirror from the prior week, though Fox's Idol (23.4 million, 8.3) went up a couple tenths and Fringe (9.2 million, 3.8) slipped a couple. NBC's Law & Order: SVU (9.8 million, 3.7) also fell slightly, though still won 10 p.m. On ABC, the transplanted season finale of Better Off Ted (3.1 million, 1.2) showed no pulse for a pickup, giving a series-low performance.
