Premiere ratings: 'Mental,' 'Hitched or Ditched'
Fox's new summer drama series "Mental" launched to modest numbers Tuesday evening, along with the debut of the CW's new reality series "Hitched or Ditched" and the series finale of "Reaper."
"Mental" opened to 5.8 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 in the 9 p.m. hour, mainly airing against specials and repeats.
For a debut in the summer, that's not terrible numbers. CBS' "Flashpoint" puttered around the same ratings neighborhood during its first summer season (and, like "Mental," is a cost-saving international co-production). Also "Mental" improved on its lead-in, a repeat of "House." But "Mental" came in third place in the hour and one hopes for a better showing with original programming. Also, the drama garnered lackluster reviews.
The CW's "Hitched or Ditched" (1.5 million, 0.7) also premiered Tuesday night, getting off to a weak start. The series finale of "Reaper" (2.2 million, 0.9) was on par.
Overall: CBS won the evening with crime procedural repeats, followed by NBC, Fox and a distant ABC, which averaged only a 0.8 rating for the night with "According to Jim" episodes and a movie ("Diamonds").
