Finale ratings: 'Race,' 'Brothers,' 'Unit,' 'Apprentice'

Sally field Out with a whimper: A modestly rated Sunday night included several season finales as broadcasters began wrapping up the season. Last night was actually the lowest-rated Sunday of the year, according to Nielsen, with the number of persons using television in the adult demo at only 33%, perhaps due to the Mothers Day holiday.

ABC won with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (8.2 million viewers, 2.6 preliminary adults 18-49 rating), Desperate Housewives (12.1 million, 4.1) and the finale of the renewed Brothers & Sisters (8.8 million, 3.0).

NBC placed second with a three-hour finale for Celebrity Apprentice (8.7 million, 3.1), a show that will return next year. After its initial ratings drop, the reality competition has managed to survive its stretch to two-hours for regular episodes this season.

CBS was third with the finales of the renewed Amazing Race (10.4 million, 3.0) and bubble shows Cold Case (11.8 million, 2.6) and The Unit (9.7 million, 2.4). Case dropped slightly from last week's spike, while The Unit was on par.

Fourth-place Fox aired low-rated outings of The Simpsons (5.2 million, 2.5), King of the Hill (4.1 million, 1.8), Family Guy (6.5 million, 3.2) and American Dad (5 million, 2.4).

Also, Fox put out a press release this morning saying next week's Sunday lineup will feature interstitials hosted by hip-hop star Eminem and Family Guy's Stewie. On "working" with Eminem, Stewie said: “I was just about to meet him, but after I shook hands with his stylist, his assistant, his lawyer, his bodyguard, his other bodyguard, his photographer, his manager, his hanger-on, his flower girl, his driver, his videographer, his notary, his historian, his her-storian, his texter and his own greased-up deaf guy, I got the swine flu."
