World Series tops Thursday, 'Vampire' rises, new low for 'FlashForward'
UPDATE: In the nationals, "Mentalist" tied "Private Practice" for the first time, each with a 3.6. "Grey's" went up to a 5.2. "Leno Show" slipped to a 1.5. "Parks" went down to a 2.0," Rock" went up to a 3.1.
Game 2 of the World Series put Fox into first place Thursday evening as ABC's "FlashForward" hit a new ratings low and The CW's "Vampire Diaries" climbed yet again.
The game delivered 18.9 million viewers and a 5.8 rating among adults 18-49. That's the most-watched Game 2 since 2004 and highest-rated since 2006.
"FlashForward" (9 million viewers, 2.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) should have seen this coming. The most male-skewing show in ABC's lineup fell 13% against the World Series, though perhaps gripes about the show maintaining the promise of its pilot are more to blame. "Grey's Anatomy" (13.4 million, 5.1) was down 4% but "Private Practice" (9.2 million, 3.6) was only off a tenth.
CBS' "Survivor" (12.5 million, 3.7) slipped 8% from last week's season high and "CSI" (14.9 million, 3.4) was down 6% to mark its lowest rating ever.
"The Mentalist" (14.9 million, 3.5) was steady despite its lead-in dropping. This is the closest the Simon Baker crime drama has been to ABC's slot-winning "Practice" since moving to Thursdays, the gap between the shows narrowing each week. It's also the first time an original "Mentalist" has scored a higher rating than its "CSI" lead-in.
NBC's "Community" (5.5 million, 2.1) was up 11% this week -- one of only two shows to rise last night -- while "Parks & Recreation" (5 million, 2.1) held steady. "The Office" (8.1 million, 4.2) and "30 Rock" (6 million, 3.0) fell slightly. "Jay Leno Show" (4.4 million, 1.6) held up.
On The CW, "Vampire Diaries" (4.2 million, 2.0) rose to a season high among the network's 18-34 target demo (2.3) and was second only to its premiere in the other measurements. "Vampire" also came within a tenth of a point of matching NBC in the adult demo at 8 p.m.
