CW picks up 'Nikita,' 'Hellcats,' 'Life,' 'OTH'
The CW has renewed both its bubble shows -- "Life Unexpected" and "One Tree Hill" -- while picking up two new series for next season, "Hellcats" and "Nikita."
"Nikita" will give the network its first non-supernatural action-drama. The Warner Bros/Wonderland series stars martial arts expert Maggie Q as an assassin who goes rogue. McG, Craig Silverstein, Danny Cannon and Peter Johnson executive produce.
"Hellcats" is about a college cheerleading squad at a Southern university, and is from Bonanza/Warner Bros./CBS TV. "Smallville" star Tom Welling executive produces along with Kevin Murphy and Allan Arkush.
All this also means "Melrose Place" is officially cancelled.
Though rumors had started last week that both veteran soap "OTH" and critically well-liked freshman drama "Unexpected" might get another round, the move is still a bit surprising, particularly in the case of "Unexpected," which has garnered modest ratings. This will mark the eighth season for "OTH." Both shows are expected to receive 13-episode orders.
