Trio of helmers tapped for network pilots

"Friday Night Lights" director/executive producer Jeff Reiner is set to direct NBC's drama pilot "Trauma," lifting the contingency off the project. In other pilot-director signings, Simon West has been tapped for Fox's comic book adaptation "Human Target," and "House" co-exec producer/director Deran Sarafian has signed on for Fox's reincarnation project. Fox picks up 'Ab Fab' pilot

Fox has handed a pilot pickup to "Absolutely Fabulous," an U.S. version of the cult British comedy about a neurotic fashion publicist, Edina, and her best friend Patsy, an outrageous fashion editor, who drive Eddie's sensible teen daughter, Saffron, up the wall with their wild behavior. Full story

In one fell swoop, Fox has ordered most of its pilot slate this development cycle. The network has greenlighted four comedy pilots, "The Station," "Walorsky," "Two Dollar Beer" and "Sons of Tucson"; and three dramas, "Maggie Hill," "Human Target" and an untitled reincarnation-themed project. 'Simpsons' writer-producers ink deal with UTA

Emmy-winning "Simpsons" writer-producers Mike Scully and Julie Thacker-Scully have inked with UTA.
Scully has worked on Fox's animated series on and off for the past 15 years, including serving as executive producer/showrunner. He also was a writer-producer on the hit 2007 "The Simpsons Movie." Scully also served as a co-exec producer on CBS' "Everybody Loves Raymond." Full story

Michael Landes inks 20th pact

Michael Landes has inked a talent holding deal with 20th Century Fox TV. Under the one-year pact, which includes a development component, Landes will topline a series project developed for him or will be cast in an existing 20th TV pilot. The deal extends Landes' relationship with the studio. Following his role on "The Wedding Bells" -- David E. Kelley's dramedy for Fox and 20th TV -- he was signed in fall 2007 to a talent deal by Fox and 20th TV. It led to a starring role on Paul Attanasio's legal dramedy pilot "Courtroom K." Full story

FX will televise revolution

FX is plotting a revolution. The cable network is developing "AR2," a drama from "Prison Break" creator/exec producer Paul Scheuring and "The West Wing" director/exec producer Thomas Schlamme about a group of Midwestern youths who spark a second American Revolution. Scheuring calls the project, which is expected to be laid off at Fox 21, " 'Les Miserables' in modern America." Full story

Fox joins group therapy with comedy

Fox has some abandonment issues. The network has inked a first-look deal for "Living With Abandon," an independently produced single-camera comedy pilot. Written by Richie Keen and Heath Corson ("Hooked") and directed by Keen, "Abandon" stars Todd Grinnell, Ed Quinn, Melissa Peterman, Rachel Specter and 14-year-old Nick Dodani as the members of an abandonment support group who suffer a blow when their therapist commits suicide. Left to fend for themselves, the members band together to solve each other's issues. Full story
