El Cantante Sells to Picturehouse

10329937_2 The salsa musical biopic produced by Jennifer Lopez, directed by Leon Ichaso and starring Marc Anthony as Hector Lavoe was supposed to sell last night; I'm told Picturehouse closed the deal for U.S. distribution rights at 5:30 AM. El Cantante stars Anthony as a soaring salsa star with a drug problem. Lopez plays Lavoe's angry but loving wife Pucha who sticks with him through the highs and lows of this showbiz melodrama. With a hopping salsa soundtrack, the movie will score big in the Latin community, which warmly embraced the Richie Valens biopic La Bamba.
