Hannah Montana Fans Have Achy Breaky Hearts

Hell apparently hath no fury like angry fans of pop starlet Miley Cyrus and her fictitious alter ego Hannah Montana. In the first class action arising from the frenzy surrounding Cyrus's "Best of Both Worlds" concert tour, a New Jersey fan's mom is suing operators of MileyWorld.com for misrepresenting that a benefit of membership in the official fan site would be "a good opportunity" to get concert tickets.
"[T]he vast majority of the members have expended $29.95 [for annual membership] without receiving any appreciable benefit," Kerry Inman, whose daughter is a MileyWorld member, alleges in this complaint. MileyWorld never promised an unlimited supply of tickets or guaranteed availability. But that "good opportunity" was a deceptive representation, Inman fumes, since "The Defendants knew, or in the very least should have known, that [MileyWorld] membership vastly exceeded the number of available tickets."
Cyrus, whose father Billy Ray Cyrus shot to fame with the seminal country hit "Achy Breaky Heart," is now facing a proposed class action of broken-hearted individuals. And two firms with plenty of class-action experience -- Glassman, Edwards, Wade & Wyatt of Memphis and Robert Peirce & Associates of Pittsburgh -- are representing Inman.
A North Carolina mom, meanwhile, is suing a ticket broker that charged her $225 apiece for four tickets to a Hannah Montana show. The face value of the tickets, Lyn Peraldo says, was $56.
