Get ready for Round 2 of the race to acquire the rights to produce new "Terminator" films, TV shows and other spinoffs.

A couple weeks ago, Santa Barbara hedge fund Pacificor was the surprise winner of an auction held by Halcyon Holding Corp. for the rights to the "Terminator" franchise. With a reported bid approaching $30 million, Pacificor beat out studios including Sony Pictures and Lionsgate.

Of course, this raises the question of what Pacificor intends to do with the rights. Would we see hedge fund managers acting as studio bigs? Not likely. Studios will likely get in line for the right to actually make and distribute "Terminator" content.

To that end, Pacificor has designated Wayne Flick and Russell Sauer, Jr., partners at L.A.'s Latham & Watkins, as the points of contact for all "Terminator"-related business inquiries. Pacificor says it's not going into the theatrical feature production business but has considerable industry expertise and will meet with its experts over the next few weeks regarding "all serious proposals."

Get out those wallets again.
