Hollywood Docket: Polanski's last ditch effort; UMG's Veoh appeal; Absolute vs. Absolut

  • Lawyers for Roman Polanski have filed a motion arguing that Swiss officials don't have all the information necessary to make an informed decision about whether to extradite him to the U.S. [Reuters]
  • Universal Music Group has filed a 100-page appeal to the Ninth Circuit arguing that the Veoh video-sharing service shouldn't be immune from copyright liability because it abided by the DMCA. Veoh, which declared bankruptcy in March, will continue to be represented by Michael Elkin, who says he is preparing his reply brief.   • Absolute Radio has settled a trademark fight with Absolut vodka. [Guardian] 
  • "Break out the champagne or sparkling cider" reads a memo from the State Film Commissioner of Florida, who trumpets news that the legislature has just passed $242 million in transferable tax credits for entertainment producers. [Florida Governor's Office] 
  • Is Lindsay Lohan going to jail or isn't she? TMZ says she has violated her probation. Her lawyer says he hasn't received a written report about any violation. [TMZ]
